Question by ghqwnfo: Teacher retirement gifts!?!?
My 9th grade gym/health teacher is retiring and my class is throwing him a party in 2 days. I have absolutely no idea of what to get the man, and it’s my job to get him a gift. Something that is less than $ 20 and something that I can get in a hurry. All answers/help is greatly appreciated :) . Thanks ahead of time.

Get him a gift card somewhere to enjoy his retirement… Is he a golfer? Buy something golf-related. Does he enjoy one sport over another? Buy a baseball hat, maybe? How about a big coffee mug or a hat that says, “RETIRED AND LOVING IT!” Or, some kind of “retired” t-shirt… I don’t know what kinds of stores you have in your area, but Spencer’s sometimes has some (but they’re often questionable). Novelty stores… Factory Card Outlet (if you have one) sometimes have shirts. Most gift stores and specialty boutiques will have something like that.

Teachers love their students, and if your class loves him enough to throw him a party, then he is definitely valued. It is a reciprocating relationship, and whatever you get him will show him that your class cherishes him and thanks him for the years he put in on your education.

Even if you got a less-than-stellar gift, if you put good thought into it, he’s going to thank you and be honored.

I bought an action figure that looked like a teacher once. We pooled money together to buy it because we loved him…

Question by jandismommie: Retirement gift for my sons Preschool teacher?
I would like to get something for my sons Preschool teacher who will be retiring in January, but don’t know what to get her. She was my teacher when I was in school so i would like to get her something nice. What would be a good gift to give my sons Preschool teacher as an retirement gift?

Best answer:

Answer by realityshowjunkie
She was your teacher too?! Wow! How special!!

As a preschool teacher I have to say that my favorite gifts are those that the children make and I also like giftcards to my favorite places. Your son can make something (a hand print with his name, a picture, a bookmark) and you can get her a gift cards. How about a gift card for a mani/pedi or a facial or massage?

You can also find one of those personalized engraved gifts. Maybe a clock or a paperweight with her name, school, and years teaching with a few sweet words.

Just some thoughts……

Do you have your class picture from when you were her student? Do you have one of your son’s class? Obviously it would be easier to get your son’s class, but yours might be harder to find. I’m into pictures, so I would get both pictures and put them in a nice 2-picture frame (perhaps where the photos can go next to each other or one on top of the other one).

Good luck.

video uploaded from my mobile phone Popular Oceanside High School Teacher disabled by major stroke at 44 needs new glasses. The lenses on her old glasses are so scratched up I can see why she’s continually asking me to clean them. I’ve been putting her off for a couple of months now hoping I would succede in my efforts to “work from home” to earn a living. Now that I’m a sole caregiver I need to stay close to home. We’re now living on her California State Teachers Disability Retirement income. Thank God we have it but it’s not enough to make ends meet. We looked at frames. Isabel thinks we ordered her new glasses but we didn’t. I did not have the money. Her inability to read, write or speak well, prevented her from realizing what transpired. Earlier in the week she had her eyes examined; her vision has changed to the point the bifocals are not an option. So now it’s two pairs of glasses– distance and reading. She is starting to read a word here and there. Progress is painfully slow– made all the more difficult because she is, was fluent in Spanish, Russian, and English. She still has the three alphabets, and sets of vocabulary but they’re all jumbled up as her Speech therapist says. The part of her brain that used to decipher numbers and letters is gone. But her brain is repairing itself, making new connections. About six months ago her therapist said “Isabel, I can see that you are definitely going to be able to read again. Thank God. She’s lost without her beloved

What Made a Great Teacher the educator Orhan Ari: Teaching & Great Teachers

A great teacher how to be can be learnt from great teachers’ educational leadership, motivational teaching  skills, school management, student discipline, parent-teacher meetings, human relations; people skills of great educator, great teacher Orhan Ari, in education reforms, popularising education…

“(Teacher Ari) was one of the greatest teachers of  our time. A born teacher” (Dogrusoz, Kibris 1999)
”We had a teacher, Ari.There was teaching. One must love people –& teach”(Dasci, Birlesik Kibris 2003)
‘Teachers Day… Fond memories, upon mention of teacher Ari…’(Guvenir, Halkin Sesi 2004)
(Extracts from this great teacher’, Orhan Seyfi Ari’s, students who became writers)

Great teachers know what make great teachers. A truly great teacher’s motivational teaching skills, educational leadership, people skills can inspire even education reforms. The popular teaching skills in education leadership, people skills make great teachers.

Great teachers’ motivational teaching skills inspire pupils, students. In public relations, school management, student discipline great teachers are empathic. Educational leadership qualities help great teachers’ teaching skills. Great teacher’s student relations motivate. In educational human relations, parent teacher meetings, great educators set example. Truly great teachers’ people skills can enable education reforms in educational history, and social pride.

‘His students made the state and the nation proud’
(On great educator Ari’s death Atun, Leader, TRNC Parliament 1992)

How do great teachers do that? What made teacher Ari a great teacher of teachers?..

This educator’s motivational teaching skills, educational leadership, public relations made him one of the great teachers. Teacher Ari’s motivational teaching skills, education leadership, people skills were hailed in poetry; people named streets after him. What were his main motivational teaching skills in education, student discipline, educational student-teacher-parent relations in school management that made him a great teacher?

Teacher and teaching excellence begin with great teachers’ people skills in human relations, motivational teaching skills. Teacher excellence,  being a great teacher demands concern, empathy in teacher student relations. Interpersonal skills aid motivational teaching skills, help be a great teacher.

Orhan Ari’s motivational teaching skills and teacher excellence kept students happy in education. His exceptional interpersonal skills in school leadership ensured the co-operation of his colleague teachers.  His human relations skills in education enabled better parent teacher dealings, parents’ support. With educational leadership qualities his communication, human relations skills enlisted the help of the community in bettering education, educational opportunities. This great teacher’s motivational teaching skills, education leadership, rose above teacher excellence, routine school management. His motivational teaching skills, concern, enabled education reforms, made him a truly great teacher who continues to inspire.

A poem -one of teacher Ari’s teaching excellence, great teacher qualities…

”His concern -so sincere!.. Greatly respected everywhere!
Years spent to illuminate… More: hearts, his sultanate!”
                                                                                (Metiner, Birlik 1993)

The poem stresses the great teacher’s (in teaching excellence, too) honesty:

“As built his honesty a throne, in every heart, that rules!”

A great teacher cares. Teacher Orhan Ari’s great teachers’ approach and educational leadership considered a student generally in teacher student relations: students’ personal circumstances affected their learning, teaching, education. In this great teacher’s school leadership that was not just a teaching, learning theory; it was a practical concern in teaching to educators, good teachers -it enhanced this great teacher’s teaching skills…

“…his concern for, and help to, his pupils, extended beyond their educational activities and lives…”
                                                                            (Fedai, Halkin Sesi 1992)

One the qualities of great teachers is that in approaching student behavior management in class (or in head teachers’ school discipline) they use student discipline as behaviour education not punishment, with knowledge of a pupil’s likes and dislikes and familiarity with students’ circumstances. This great teacher applied student discipline with a sincere private discussion and care about students’ feelings, without humiliating in school discipline, acknowledging their abilities and potential, with interested appreciation of pupils’ nature -teacher Orhan Ari’s poetry reflects this:

‘Sometimes such fools we were, sometimes smart kids
Sometimes Satan’s tools, sometimes with saintly deeds’

A great teacher motivates. In parent teacher meetings this great teacher’s educational and teaching skills, enhanced by people skills in human relations, included appreciating intrinsic parent-student aspirations. Teacher Orhan Ari, with great teachers’ teaching excellence, informed parents of students’ good behaviour, educational progress, achievements, making both proud; he explained students’ abilities, potential, as incentive for parental educational encouragement of pupils. Orhan Ari’s people and motivational teaching skills, education leadership, involved parents less interested in pupils’ education, enhancing his staff and colleague teachers’, this great educator’s student motivation. Great teachers respect social values -it aids teaching excellence, great teachers’ parent-pupil motivation:

‘In secondary school our teacher Orhan Seyfi Ari took us to weekly prayers’
                                                                            (Ersoy, Huryildiz 2008)

A great teacher is dedicated. This great teacher’s motivation, help to parents and students extended beyond the requirements in teaching and education from teachers, in educational leadership from head teachers. Teacher Ari’s people skills and dedication earned him not only his pupils’, students’, parents’ trust, confidence, but usefully to trade-craft trainees in vocational study, also the respect of the business community…

“We’d fallen out; we came across this teacher Ari. He [intervened] and I was able to complete my apprenticeship”
(Tezel, Golden Frame Interviews, Halkin Sesi Supplement 2004)

Great teachers are aproachable. Teacher Orhan Ari’s teacher excellence in educational human relations, people and teaching skills, not only with motivational teaching kept secondary school pupils interested,  encouraged also the quiet and shy pupils, enjoyed teaching and teacher popularity with his sharp wit, appropriate jokes and approachability; also, with his adult college students this great teacher’s popularity was enormous, lasting…

”I met Orhan Seyfi Ari at college -our friendship continued for years”
(Kitromilides,‘Images from My Life’, Nicholas London 2002)

Truly great teachers’ globally popular educational leadership qualities and motivational teaching skills can make educational history. This great teacher’s human relations in educational leadership enabled education reforms -his people skills in education made him popular within and without his community. In retirement from teaching Orhan Ari was invited to visit, inspect schools overseas; at this great teacher’s funeral, retired from teaching years before, former students, school pupils carried flowers.

“If a teacher is dedicated people respect him, former students ask after him”
(‘Our Forever Shining Suns on Education’, Ministry of Education & Culture TRNC 1984 -Quote: teacher Ari)

Great teachers love people, are loved back, remembered. Great teachers’ popularity lasts. With teacher and teaching awards, in a monograph, great teacher Orhan Seyfi Ari saw as his greatest reward

’My spiritual reward.. my beloved ‘children’, my pupils, have achieved success…
The feeling of having been loved by them as I have loved them.’

From a hailed great teacher, motivational teaching and people skills of great teachers!

Question by Nafis Weaver: A poem for my teacher who’s gonna retire on 16th July 2010?
A teacher of mine is gonna retire. I told her a lot and learned a lot of advices from her, etc. She also knows that I do poetry writing. So I wanna give a poem to her. For her retirement,

1. Should I write the poem on a piece of paper or something? Give some ideas since it’s for her retirement, it’s gotta be something special. I have no idea about decoration or making a nice gift.

2. Do you think I should make a new poem or choose one of my really nice poems below? Seriously, I made them. It doesn’t matter if you don’t believe me but I know the truth and I know myself, my heart.

My Dream

Blue
Skies high
Above us
Inspired my heart
To roam through the seas
Above the azure skies
As free as the birds I’ve seen
Flying towards a place I dream
While the winds brushing off the worries
So I will fly to where all our dreams lie
Within our hearts, where hopes are held up high
Towards the light will someday be true
Letting my heart embraces all
There is to be in this world
Weaving all of our tales
Within I treasure
Everything
I will feel
Till the
End.

Looking Up

Looking up towards the sky,
Where birds spread their wings and fly.
I wonder how would the future be?
Once a brighter future is set free?

Moments drifting in my mind,
With the past I left behind.
Believe in the distant future,
As I will be my best from here.

Where I believe and I wonder,
Where I will smile and I wander.
Cerulean skies, thousand smiles,
The light of the future shines.

Their Wings

The birds that fly freely in the sky,
The birds that have no worries over their wings;
From time to time, they’ll fly through their sky,
Spread their wings, cherish their freedom.

Their eyes watch over the world,
Their wings spread through the seas,
Facing, flying over the mystical land
Without the surging hourglass.

They fly, embrace their freedom
Over limitless time, in this verse,
They see; they soar high in the air
Over and over the cerulean sky.

Time Moves Slowly Today

The sun rises on a morning;
Slowly I rise, from eyes sleeping.
The light illuminates the day,
I see that time moves slowly today.

Walking along the road I see
Everyone as they feel free.
Under the sun’s bright shining ray,
I see that time moves slowly today.

White clouds drifting apart
Beneath the sky looks like a heart.
As time passes, kids come and play;
I see that time moves slowly today.

The evening sun setting down;
I just gaze and wave, here from town.
As the night starts to make its way,
I see that time moves slowly today.

Walking back, as I keep walking;
Everyone would be talking.
They have fun, weariness away,
I see that time moves slowly today.

Sparkling stars of the sky tonight
Guided by wonders of moonlight,
I am dazzled, too much to say;
I see that time moves slowly today.

Closing my eyes not all too soon;
Watching the night view of the moon.
Serenity, down as I lay,
I see that time moves slowly today.

Smile (11:30p.m. 18/12/2009)

Smile, when you mean it
As an awkward smile shows
That you are unhappy
With your own life

Smile, whenever you want to
Show your happiness
Towards your own life
Because it is what you feel

Smile, before you leave here
As others would always
Want to see you again
Because of that smile

To My Life (21/6/2010)

As I sing from my heart to you,
I feel my dreams becoming true.
I wish this time would last for days.
To my life, thank you as always.

When I keep holding to my might,
I would know things will be alright.
Future comes in wonderful ways.
To my life, thank you as always.

There is a meaning towards life
That’s why I continue to thrive.
Within my hands, shining light rays.
To my life, thank you as always.

As I sing from my heart to you,
To my life, thank you as always.
