Question by A need to know: I received a retirement gift that does not work?
How do I tactfully tell a gift giver that the fountain she gave me does not work.

Best answer:

Answer by hypostatize
There’s no shame in bringing it up. It’s not saying that you don’t want it, it’s showing that you DO. Besides, they should have given you a gift receipt.

“Thank you so much for your thoughtful gift. It will be a nice reminder of you while I am enjoying retirement.”

How about that? It makes people feel valued and appreciated and it is personal, but short and sweet.

Question by ninfragile19: Need ideas for a retirement gift for office manager?
Our manager who has been with the company for over 35 years is retiring and we have no clue what to get him.

So far our plans include renting out a function hall for a party and buying a package to a nearby resort/casino for a weekend for him and his wife. We also want to get him something tangible for him to remember us by, and that’s where we’re at a loss.

We don’t want to get him something cheesy like an engraved plate or silver name placard. We need something unique and different that he can use.

An engraved pen would be a nice and unique gift.

Here she’s opening the gift to Vancouver which she thinks is the “final” gift. Then she sees there is still one more clue….On the table, we set the final gift basket with all of the stuff for her trip to Alaska. As soon as she saw the binder with the booklet, she just about lost it. She was overwhelmed. It was her dream trip! It took her days to go through all of the gifts because she was so completely overwhelmed. So thank you, thank you, thank you. They will be departing for their trip NEXT week on May 18th. Wow!

Question by : What should I get my dad as a retirement gift?
My dad was a police officer for 35 years, but I dont know what to get him thaat is a little more personal than what his friends will get him…

Best answer:

Answer by sophieb
retirement is ending the daily work chore so it’s really not a personal matter. Retirement at home is a different thing as it means he’s reached 65 or 66 and can stop working altogether. I suspect your dad will not quit working so a mere congratulations card is in order. From the police stand point it is an honor and achievement. So your card could say you’re proud of his achievements.
